you whispered into my soul "I think I'm falling for you" and I said, "I'm afraid, but I'll try hard to put these arm to use to break your fall and not your heart." lean on me in the dark and refresh all those feelings we swore were dead we'll relearn how to love and this time I'll try harder. I whispered into my mind I know I've fallen for you and I said, "Tonight's the night we let nothing dam our love. We've already cracked it now, it might as well explode." on us in the dark and refresh all those feelings we swore were dead we'll relearn how to love and this time I'll try harder.

I Tried 02:31
my current emotional status makes me wish I could wish last night away bashing my head away from the inside out saying things I didn't mean that I meant at the time. hurtful. deceitful, but hey, I tried. but I still know everything will be alright cause I was singing in my dreams with my eyes glued shut singing, "Now, it's gone and I had my chance, but had to forfeit." I know sometimes efforts fall short and some people never appreciate the things others sacrifice for them but even though my efforts fell short, please don't be one of them. my current emotional status makes me wish I could wish last night away bashing my head away from the inside out saying things I didn't mean that I meant at the time. hurtful. deceitful, but hey I tried.

Disposal 03:30
old flames return hotter and brighter I thought I extinguished them long ago I can see I'm not too good with fire one little spark to light it up, and then it engulfs me. I'm so doused in this love-filled perfume when you breathe fire i become as hot as the sun and I tell you things you want to know like the way you move makes me go crazy. old flames return colder and darker I thought they exited long ago i can feel the chills still shaking me up and then they captured me. I'm so doused in this love-filled perfume when you get closer I become as cold as the moon and I tell you things you want to know like the way you move makes me go crazy. watch me as I run away and hope this melody trips you up in your room as you're planning your scheme of disposal after you got me dead. I'm so doused in this love-filled perfume when you breathe fire I become as cold as the moon and I tell you things you want to know like the way you move makes me go crazy.

Solution 02:40
I wish my eyes could see what will exist so there'd be no wasted effort no second chances. for what didn't deserve it, but for the existing things you'll find more than second chances. I wonder to my mind what direction should I take? which path should I choose to walk down? which funeral will I attend? and who will I let live in my mind? I can not forget certain messy things but if I knew it'd help me I'd try to forget everything and I'd wonder where you are.

Sail On 02:41
oh, the innocence of a child playing outside so young, and have no idea what they're getting themselves in to. I feel moved to yell out my window, "Beware of pain cause it'll find you inevitably!" I'm watching the underside of a lady bug on my window maybe there's some luck in store for them as they pretend to sail the atlantic ocean with their rakes as oars and their leaves as the seas they're never coming back! sail on, sail on young souls.

hello again can you hear me or are you just too far away? come close now I wanna see you and speak right to you I wanna know all about you and be with you too come back home tonight. I miss you. now listen here, I'll swim if you swim through this barracade. come close now I wanna see you and speak right to you I wanna know all about you and be with you too come back home tonight. I miss you. come back home tonight, I miss you.

Jay 02:49
I could swear right now you're with me, but I turn to see nothing at all feel a presence, or hear a noise and I guess it was only my thoughts. with my thoughts I'll send a jay to tell you what I need you to know he'll perch on the tree in your mind and comfort you, you won't be alone, so don't be afraid of it. so don't be afraid of it. look into yourself, and find the little bird, and don't afraid of it. and don't be afraid of us.

with these thoughts, I will declare myself legally dead and with those strings, I will walk into the dark and hang myself. and with this mouth, I will announce to the world my deepest secrets through imagery and scenery. I'll lock them together in my mind. it's not like these strings haven't hanged me and I've tried to pretend my words haven't bound me, but I'm a slave. and with these fingers, I will press onto these strings the same ones that choked me in the dark and with my voice, I will be free... as long as I keep on singing. it's not like these strings haven't hanged me and I've tried to pretend my words haven't bound me, but I'm a slave. I will be free as long as I keep on singing in the dark as long as I keep on singing in the dark.

now, that it's so cold I wish for a time and a scenario that I wished was gone when it was here. going out to the woods in my mind to walk through the creek in my bare feet I hope the glass don't pierce my toe. the glass pierced my toe and blood filled the miniature ocean I looked up to see a squirrel and said keep an eye out for me, help me live. I'll give you an acorn made of gold it'll fill you forever, you will be full. he saved my life the squirrel in the tree.

29, 30, 31 02:54
another day quickly starts and what that moon didn't know is when it disappeared it took 29 with it and the sunrise poured 30 all over the earth one time-zone at a time. I want 29 I want 31 I'm never satisfied with 30. sorry, but life seems better in the form of memory, and anticipation things are never what you expect and things are surely never how you remember them. I want 29 I want 31 I'm never satisfied with 30. do we ever stop anticipating things to come? then are we ever truly happy where we are? only tomorrow will we be happy and we can look back and say, "That was the life, those were the days" but were we ever happy when we lived in those days? I want 29 I want 30 get out of my life I don't want you, 30.

about

Equal parts fact, fiction, experience, longing, expectation etc... Mostly written in the second half of December 2006, I recorded early versions of these songs onto my Fostex MR8 digital 8 track recorder in my bedroom. Then, I would them put them on CD and drive around the county listening to the structures of the songs, and how the songs would interact with each other based on sequence.

When I had all the song structures set, I rerecorded the songs, put them in a final sequence, and called it an album. I made countless, what I now consider, practice or demo albums during 2006 & 2007. This is a collection made from a few of those albums, namely, Made In March, November 10th, Weeping Willow & Farewell.

Sadly, some of my absolute favorites from this time will remain unreleased due to quality. So, of the songs I felt comfortable enough with (both the sonically & performance-wise), these are my favorites.

As much as it stressed me out keeping all of these albums to myself over the years, it was well worth making them if even just for the lessons I learned. Each album gave me more songwriting experience while providing a positive outlet for artistic expression, and for that, I'm forever grateful.

Thanks for listening,

Ben

about

Ben Hughes New Jersey

"...channels musicians like Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes, and Sufjan Stevens, as on Hughes’ previous releases. But this record immediately calls to mind Pedro the Lion’s Control, with its deep-voiced chords and melodies, lyrical themes of corporate hell, and Hughes’ slurring voice. It could stand as a complimentary album to Control just as well as it stands on its own."
